I Ain’t Skeered!

I ain’t skeered! Isn’t that what most country boys say when they are about to do something that is generally going to end up with a trip to the ER? I am not saying that what we are doing is really stupid, nor do I anticipate my grin to become toothless or having a scar with which the explanation begins, “remember that time you dared me…?” But, it is now less than two weeks until we dip our toes in the Pacific and I am in full panic mode. No matter what you do to plan, you always wonder, always tend to second guess, always question that you have what it takes to accomplish a goal. Whether it is an Ironman race or a 5K, a challenging project at work, or a personal relationship, questions always enter. So I guess it is no different when you a trying to ride nearly 70 miles a day for 50 plus days.

With all those scenarios, it seems that how you approach things is the most critical piece. Fear is pretty easy to take root. I ‘m thinking the key is to acknowledge it, manage it and make it a secondary emotion. With that in mind, I want to begin this with the idea that the only option is to finish. I can’t wait to see this great country. I am looking forward to meeting people, enjoying God’s nature, and testing myself mentally and physically. I have been really fortunate. I want to focus on all the blessings I have and rid myself of all negative thoughts. None of us are promised tomorrow. I want to focus on today. That is what I hope to do on this trip. That is what I want to do the rest of my life…. I ain’t  skeered!
